Word from the CVBs Fort Worth's Parade of Lights Fort Worth has a new point of interest-The Texas Civil War Museum. This new facility on the west side of Fort Worth focuses on the Civil War and the Lone Star State. Ray and Judy Richey have completely funded the museum. The Richey's are local citizens with a deep passion and interest in the Civil War era. Ray Richey, a local businessman, has long been a collector of a broad range of Civil War artifacts from both the North and the South which gives a comprehensive view of the uniforms, weapons, tools, saddles and many other items used by the troops in the war. Judy Richey has brought together an extensive collection of Victorian dresses which traces women's clothing through the Civil War to the turn of the century. In addition, the Museum houses the Texas Confederate Museum collection of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. The facility displays an extraordinary collection that will appeal to persons of all ages. If you are asking, "Why a Civil War Museum in Texas? Why in Fort Worth?" The answer lies in the fact that the Civil War was a significant time for the Lone Star State. As a Confederate State, Texas sent soldiers to major battles in the war, including those in the East as well as along the State's borders. In addition, the North and the South fought the final battle of the war in Texas, after the conflict had officially ended days earlier! The Civil War influenced the economy and politics of Texas for many years. It is also appropriate for Fort Worth, one of the great museum centers in the United States, to have such a significant display for local citizens and visitors who love history to enjoy. The Texas Civil War Museum opens in late January 2006. It is located at 760 Jim Wright Freeway North. For more information, contact the Museum at 817-246-2323. Kick Off the New Year in Fun Central!
