Texas Ballet Theater Chooses John Toohey

Officials of Texas Ballet Theater have announced the appointment of a new managing director. John Toohey, general manager of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra Association, takes that role January 23, 2006 and will be responsible for operational oversight of this $5M ballet company. Toohey will work together with artistic director Ben Stevenson, O.B.E., with Stevenson overseeing all artistic areas and Toohey overseeing all staff and support functions.

Texas Ballet Theater is the premier resident professional classical Ballet Company of North Texas. Under the direction of artistic director, Ben Stevenson, OBE, the ballet brings unprecedented talent, beauty, and artistic expression to the stages of Fort Worth's Bass Performance Hall and Dallas' Music Hall at Fair Park. Texas Ballet Theater will become the resident ballet company at the new Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House at the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts when it opens in 2009. TBT also performs at The Majestic Theatre in Dallas.

Robin Arena, President of the Ballet said, "We are incredibly fortunate to have found someone whose skills and experience complement Ben's so beautifully. This combination of their talents, our dancers, and an exquisite artistic product leave TBT perfectly poised to flourish in a unique role as the only resident company of both Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth and The Music Hall at Fair Park in Dallas, and as of 2009, the new Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House at the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts."

Toohey was also responsible for local-fee and regional touring engagements, including those of Texas Ballet Theater, Fort Worth Opera, Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, Southwest Seminary Oratorio Chorus and the Texas Christian University Van Cliburn Piano Institute. In 1991, he founded and has since managed the successful Concerts in the Garden Summer Music Festival presented by the Orchestra at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden.
