Looking for a unique way to spend an afternoon? Come explore the Grapevine Wine Trail! Grapevine is the North Texas hub of the Texas wine industry. And in addition to the wine tasting rooms, Grapevine is home to the Texas Wine and Grape Growers Association. In Grapevine, you can sample and purchase some of the finest wines produced in Texas. At several of the wineries, you can even create your own bottle of wine, from blending and bottling to labeling. Guided tours now offered every first Saturday in Denton The Horse Country Tour of North Texas is now available as a guided tour, meandering through beautiful Denton County, but with the added benefit of knowledgeable, enthusiastic and fun escorts on each tour. The tours will be available on the first Saturday of every month, beginning Saturday, February 2, 2008. Each tour will begin at 9:00 am and will conclude at 1:00 pm. Located just northeast of Fort Worth, the horse country region extends through Denton County to the Red River at the Oklahoma State line. Known as "Horse Country USA", the area is populated with more than 300 farms and ranches, many of which are breeding and training facilities. The horse population exceeds 25,000 and includes many different breeds from Quarter Horses to Thoroughbreds and from Paints to Andalusians. The tour takes visitors among farms specializing in a variety of disciplines including halter horses, pleasure horses, cutting horses, reining, hunter-jumpers, and more. Lovely country roads wind along miles of pipe and rail fencing, beautiful pastures, impressive barns and, of course, lots and lots of horses. The Saturday tour will originate at the Denton County Historical Park at the corner of Carroll and Mulberry, near the Bayless-Selby House Museum in Downtown Denton, just off the Courthouse Square. It will depart at 9 a.m., include visits to several ranches, then return to the Courthouse Square by 1 p.m. when guests will be released on the Square to enjoy lunch on their own. The number of tickets for each tour will be limited to a maximum of 50 people. Tickets will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Tickets are $25 and should be purchased in advance at the Denton Convention & Visitor Bureau office, 414 Carroll Blvd. in Denton or by calling 940-382-7895. Day of tour tickets will be available on a stand-by basis only, but will cost $30 and will be available with cash payment only. Convention & Visitor Bureau Director Kim Phillips stated that the tour's popularity is the impetus behind making the Horse Country Tour a static Denton attraction. "Having the Horse Country Tour available year-round, at a set-time where people can extend their stay in a hotel, or plan a trip especially to go on the tour is going to answer a long-time demand of our visitors. That demand is to have the opportunity to experience the richer version of the Horse Country Tour - richer being with one of our expert, fun guides." For a Horse Country brochure or to get details about participating on one of the Horse Country guided tours, please call the Denton Convention & Visitor Bureau toll free at 888-381-1818 or visit online at www.discoverdenton.com or www.horsecountrytours.com.
