Word from the CVBs The Museums of Fort Worth The museums of Fort Worth provide visitors with an amazing number of special exhibits throughout the year. Fort Worth is one of the few cities around the world that has a major concentration of museums in a single district. Our Cultural District, as it is known, is home to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, the Amon Carter Museum, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, the Kimbell Art Museum and the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame. In addition, the building that once housed the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth is now home to a community arts center and theater. In a single visit, it is possible to walk to each of these buildings with their great collections and special exhibits without ever getting back into your car. They are all within a short distance of each other in the Cultural District and adjacent to the Will Rogers Memorial Center, which also offers a great array of events throughout the year. One of the most remarkable aspects of these museums is the numerous special exhibitions that are always on view and available to visitors. This spring the exhibits include the following: "Turner and Venice"at the Kimbell, an exhibit shown only in Fort Worth and in London; a photo exhibit at the Amon Carter featuring Frémont's expedition through the Rockies; "Whodunit?" about the science of solving crime at the Science and History Museum; an exhibit on "125 Years of Justin Boots" at the Cowgirl Museum; and "The Collection One Year Later" at the Modern which shows new additions to this museum's great collection. Key Area Visitor Guide and the Fort Worth Convention & Visitors Bureau's website (www.fortworth.com) are two ways to become aware of what the special exhibits are at any particular time. Throughout the year, Fort Worth's great museums offer visitors extraordinary experiences because of their great special exhibits. Glen Rose, Texas Named America's Dream Town The rest of the world has discovered what we already knew. Glen Rose has been voted "America's Dream Town," in a national competition that concluded at midnight, New Year's Eve. Glen Rose edged out Taylor, Nebraska as the top vote getter, 52,501 to 45,129. Situated in the middle of rolling hills and rivers, Glen Rose has a large variety of shops, restaurants and bed and breakfasts which provide visitors an escape from the daily grind. Glen Rose is also home to nationally known attractions such as Fossil Rim Wildlife Center and Dinosaur Valley State Park. These attractions and Glen Rose have been profiled on "The Today Show" and in prestigious publications including National Geographic, Southern Living and Texas Highways. What does being named "America's Dream Town" include? For starters, Glen Rose will be featured in a book titled, "America's Dream Towns," along with the winner from each state. Since Glen Rose is the national winner, Glen Rose will be featured on the cover of the book. Glen Rose will also be featured on a one-hour television program, which will air at a time to be announced. Perhaps most important are bragging rights which Glen Rose now has by being "America's Dream Town." The honor is sure to bring media attention to Glen Rose. Just being nominated has already resulted in radio interviews on New York City radio stations, as well as several local radio interviews. Artwork is being prepared by the American Dream Town people which will be used by Glen Rose during the coming year for advertising and promotional purposes. The contest, sponsored by American Dream Town, had three cities in each state being nominated for the honor. Other cities in Texas nominated included Boerne and Rio Frio. The public voted at www.americandreamtown.com and Glen Rose is now prominently featured on the site with the designation as "America's Dream Town." Denton's Texas Storytelling Festival Come to Denton March 25th through the 28th, 2004 for our 19th annual Texas Storytelling Festival. Audiences will hear spine-tingling ghost tales, Texas legends, Spanish cuentos, Irish yarns, memorable war stories, toe-taping music and many other things. Liz Carpenter, the former White House Press Secretary to Lady Bird Johnson and a Texas legend herself, will tell some stories of her own along with P. J. Pierce who is writing Carpenters biography. Held in Civic Center Park just a few blocks away from Denton's historic Courthouse Square, the storytelling festival is a one-of-a-kind event, featuring great family entertainment that includes stories and music from a variety of traditions.
