Cliburn Concerts Presents Russian Pianist Vladimir Feltsman Cliburn Concerts presents Vladimir Feltsman Tuesday, February 7 at 8 p.m. in the Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass Performance Hall. Feltsman's Cliburn Concerts debut three seasons ago--as a last-minute replacement- was received with a prolonged ovation from an audience asking for more. The Van Cliburn Foundation is pleased to bring back the pianist who will perform music by Mozart, Beethoven, and Chopin. In 1979, due to his growing discontent with the official Soviet ideology and rigid governmental control of the arts, Feltsman applied for an exit visa. In response, he was banned from performing in public. After eight years of struggle and virtual artistic exile, he was finally granted permission to leave the Soviet Union. Upon his arrival in the United States in 1987, Feltsman was warmly greeted at the White House, where he performed his first concert in North America. That same year, his debut at Carnegie Hall established him as a major pianist on the American scene. Feltsman became a United States citizen in 1995. In the fall of 2005, Feltsman returned to Carnegie Hall in recital after a highly successful appearance there in January 2004. In addition, he returned to the Ravinia Festival this summer for his fourth appearance in five years. His 2005-2006 season also includes a tour of the southeastern United States with the Rotterdam Philharmonic, with Valerey Gergiev conducting. Feltsman made his twelfth consecutive appearance at the Aspen Music Festival in the summer of 2005. Southern Methodist University's Dr. Carol Reynolds will host a free lecture at the McNair Rehearsal Hall on Calhoun Street, across from Bass Performance Hall, at 7 p.m. Tickets prices range from $15 to $80.
