Butterflies in the Garden Always a source of a surprise or two, this year during the month of March, many surprises await visitors in the Fort Worth Botanic Garden’s Conservatory. The Butterflies are coming!!! Learn about the critical role butterflies, and other animals play in pollination, from the educational exhibit Pollination Partnerships located in the hallway leading to the Conservatory. After emerging from the secured entrance of the Conservatory, follow the path to the Emerging Box, and watch in wonder as each butterfly emerges from its chrysalis, dries its wings and prepares for flight. Thousands of butterflies will float and flutter amid the lush foliage of the tropical rain forest. After you visit the butterflies, and before you leave the building, a must stop-and-see is the… FLUTTERBY BUTTERFLY SHOP. Here you will find T-shirts, games, books, toys and many other items to compliment your butterfly adventure. The show starts March 4 and continues through April 3, 2005. You can visit between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the door. Adults $5, Seniors 55+, $4, children ages 3-12, $3 and children under 2, free. March and April are busy times in the Garden. The annual Japanese Garden celebration continues with its 2005 Spring Festival. Japanese entertainment, crafts, food, art, music and, of course, martial arts and Bonsai demonstrations will provide a weekend of entertainment along with many fun-filled family activities. The Spring Festival is Saturday, April 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, April 3 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. When visiting the Japanese Garden, it’s hard to believe that over thirty years ago it rose from a site that was a trash-filled ravine to become a world-renowned garden of traditional Japanese design. Nature lovers can visit the Japanese Garden year round. Hours of operation during Daylight Saving Time are 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. Standard Time hours, from November to March, are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Weekdays admission is Adults $3, children 12 and under, $2, children 3 and under, free. Seniors 50 cents off regular admission prices. Fort Worth Botanical Society Members free. After you visit the butterflies, and experience the Spring Festival, take time to stroll through the other gardens that make up the Fort Worth Botanic Garden. Note the new entrance arch for the Native Forest Boardwalk, located across the street from the Gardens Restaurant. Walk along its curving path leading to the elevated portion of the boardwalk which is scheduled for completion this year. Stop by the Gardens Restaurant for lunch and liquid refreshments.
