Ongoing Grapevine Vintage Railroad Excursions take place on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays pulled by the 109 year-old steam engine. Thursdays are Vintage Diesel Days. Trips from Grapevine to the Fort Worth Stockyards are scheduled Fridays through Sundays departing Grapevine at 1 p.m. and arriving in the Stockyards about 2:30 p.m. The return run boards at 4:15 p.m. to arrive back in Grapevine around 5:45 p.m. Robbers have been known to board the train as it makes its way from Grapevine to Fort Worth. The hour long Trinity River Run-leaving from the Stockyards-is 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. For Valentine's Special, see p. 39. Closed Christmas Day. Tickets for the Grapevine to Fort Worth Run are Gen. Ongoing Glen Rose, TX-Fossil Rim Wildlife Center is a unique wildlife Refuge situated in the sprawling Texas hill country that features guided tours, camping and wildlife studies. Ongoing Ft. Worth Botanic Garden-Wander among trees, flowers and along waterways of the 109-acre park. An exhibition greenhouse and gift shop are two detours in the journey. Ongoing Arlington, TX-The Legends of the Game Baseball Museum, at Ameriquest Field in Arlington, features baseball uniforms, balls, playing cards and photographs depicting the history of the sport. The Learning Center for Children houses interactive exhibits on baseball and how the sport is related to fields such as science, math, history, geography and communications. Ongoing Fort Worth Stockyards Historical District-The Texas Longhorn Cattle Drive occurs twice daily, weather permitting, but they don't mosey-along on major holidays. Herders dressed in 19th-century cowboy gear drive 15 to 17 head of cattle down Exchange Ave. Best viewing areas for the 11:30 a.m. & 4 p.m. drives are the front lawn of the Livestock Exchange Bldg. or across the street near the Stockyards Visitor's Center. Ongoing Fort Worth's history is housed in the 94-year-old Fire Station No. 1 building located in the City Center Complex. This Fort Worth Museum of Science & History exhibit traces Fort Worth's development from its beginning as a frontier outpost, through its rowdy youth as a cattle town to the present. Ongoing Black Dog Tavern presents "The Jazz Monsters," a 20-piece professional jazz band consisting of esteemed musicians who have taught and performed throughout the Metroplex for years. Through March 19 The Amon Carter Museum presents an exhibition of more than 50 dazzling prints that illustrate the enduring vision of Robert Blackburn (1920-2003), a master printmaker who changed the course of American art through his groundbreaking graphic work and the Printmaking Workshop that he founded in 1948 in New York City. "Creative Space: Fifty Years of Robert Blackburn's Printmaking Workshop" features a selection of Blackburn's own work along with prints by collaborators, students, friends and colleagues, and presents a remarkable record of artistic achievement over the past fifty years. Through March 26 This winter the Kimbell Art Museum presents "Gauguin and Impressionism," the first-ever comprehensive survey of Paul Gauguin's early career. All of the great French artists normally known as Post-Impressionists are exhibited with the Impressionists, but the involvement of Cézanne and Seurat in the movement was slight compared to that of Gauguin. He contributed to five of the eight Impressionist exhibitions-more than either Renoir or Sisley-and was the most active artist-collector of Impressionist paintings after Caillebotte. This exhibition is curated jointly by Dr. Richard R. Brettell & Anne-Brigitte Fonsmark, both experts on Impressionism. Through May 21 The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History takes you to the beautiful paradise of Hawaii in the exhibition "Lost in Paradise: Hawaii's Plants at Risk." Hawaii is a land of flowers with a unique and fascinating flora that is rapidly disappearing. Close to 50 percent of the native plants in Hawaii are now considered rare and endangered or already extinct. These are the flowers that most people never see, until now. Through May 28 The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth presents the special exhibition "Sean Scully: Wall of Light." Inspired by a trip to Mexico more than twenty years ago, the "Wall of Light" series is based on the artist's memory of light and shadow playing on ancient Mayan ruins. Scully's exploration of surface texture and abstract forms in these works evokes a range of emotional and narrative themes. Featuring some forty paintings and a selection of pastels and watercolors, the exhibition allows for a fresh consideration of this important artist and an appreciation for his process of developing themes over many years. Through June 25 The Amon Carter Museum presents two special photographic exhibitions, "Focus on Photographs: Man Ray's "Électricité" and "Exploring Sight: Young Photographers in the 1970s." In "Focus on Photographs," see ten revolutionary images created by the innovative American photographer Man Ray (1890-1976), who made cameraless photographs, or photograms, by placing objects like toasters, light bulbs and irons on a piece of photographic paper or film and then exposing the film or paper to light. Through "Exploring Sight," look back thirty years to when an explosion of public and museum interest in artistic photography sparked experimentation among younger photographers with their craft. 4-April 30 The Smithsonian traveling exhibition, "Booming Out: Mohawk Ironworkers Build New York," comes to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. Standing hundreds of feet above the ground on the frames of New York City skyscrapers is not the easiest way to make a living. Mohawk Indian ironworkers say that "walking iron" gives them great pride. These ironworkers share their stories of strength in this exhibition. The Mohawks have constructed portions of the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, the George Washington Bridge and the World Trade Center in New York City. 24-26 The Fort Worth Opera brings La Bohéme to Bass Performance Hall. There is no other name in music that equates romance like the popular composer, Giacomo Puccini. And in La Bohéme, his melodic invention and expressive storytelling are arguably at their best. La Bohéme recently made its Broadway premiere with a production by Baz Luhrmann, perhaps best known for his movie version of Moulin Rouge.
