Spend your Spring Break in Fort Worth

Spring break is a great time to bring the entire family to Fort Worth! Exciting special events and attractions highlight the City of Cowboys and Culture this March. Experience the Bureau of Engraving and Printing’s 2008 Spring Break Employee Craft Fair. During March 17-21, see employees from the Bureau’s production floor give a live demonstration of the moneymaking process. These exhibits feature the turn-of-the century spider press, mutilated currency restorations, the engraver’s table and the plate maker’s table. Walk on the wild side at the Fort Worth Zoo, named one of the top zoos in the nation. The Zoo is home to more than 5,000 native and exotic animals, featured in exhibits such as World of Primates, the African Savannah, the He rpatarium, Meerkat Mounds, Texas Wild! and many more. Hey Dad, did you hear? Not only are the Texas Rangers having their opening game here on April 8, but fan favorite Nolan Ryan has returned to the team! The retired Ranger, known for his sizzling fastball and toughness, has been named the Texas Rangers’ new team president. Woo Hoo! Maybe he can put a headlock on the Rangers turn for the World Series. Speaking of turns, Arlington has everything the kids need for an exciting Spring Break Out! Grapevine’s Train Load of Activities for Spring 2008

Come to Grapevine for the Fourth Annual Chocolate Festival March 8, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event, featuring more than 30 of the finest chocolatiers in the D/FW area, supports Travelers Aid Dallas/Fort Worth, a 501(c)(3) non-profit agency and a partner agency with United Way of Metropolitan Tarrant County.

Guests can spend a day indulging in decadent chocolates and viewing unique pieces of art at the Palace Arts Center in Historic Downtown Grapevine located at 300 S. Main. All proceeds go toward Travelers Aid D/FW, a United Way agency whose mission is to provide information and social services to the DFW Airport and surrounding communities.

What’s Happening in Granbury – March 2008?

The 20th annual Great Race Texas returns to its roots in Granbury, March 7-9, 2008. Great Race Texas is a three-day, open road, rally race for classic cars. A shorter version of the national Great Race, which is in its 26th year of competition, each team’s score is determined by their ability to follow designated course instructions precisely. Granbury’s historic downtown square, w hich remains in many ways the way it was in the late 1800s, is the perfect backdrop for vintage vehicles.

The Historic Granbury Merchants Association will celebrate General Granbury’s birthday in style with a full two days of arts, crafts, entertainment, bean & rib cook-offs and a giant birthday cake on March 29 and March 30, 2008. This year will mark the 30-year anniversary of this celebration and it promises to be the best one ever. A family carnival with children’s rides and games, bean eating contests and the infamous outrageous outhouse races all take place on the historic downtown square.

Granbury Live Presents Country! beginning March 7 and goes through March 29. The music of country icons like Bob Wills, Patsy Cline, Reba McIntyre, Dolly Parton & Tammy Wynette, will be featured as well as Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride and Shania Twain.

“Legends of the Challenge: The Artwork of Burl Washington” will be on view at Tarleton’s Dora Lee Langdon Cultural & Education Center through March 14, 2008. Washington is one of today’s most talented artists respected as a painter who captures history, passion and emotion in his work.

March Opening for Dinosaur World

After a lot of hard work and much anticipation, Dinosaur World has finally opened in Glen Rose. Featuring more than 100 life-size dinosaurs, the newest attraction in Glen Rose is sure to be popular with young and old alike. Covering 22 acres, the park features a walking trail so visitors can view all of the dinosaurs. There is also a fossil dig for the children, a dinosaur museum and gift shop. Over the next years, plans call for the addition of a movie cave and dinosaur themed playground. Dinosaur World currently operates parks in Florida and Kentucky. For more information on the parks, visit www.dinoworld.net. Glen Rose is gearing up to handle all of the new visitors Dinosaur World is expected to bring to town. A new Comfort Inn & Suites opened in Glen Rose in February and a new LaQuinta is currently being built with the opening date expected to be in late summer or early fall. There are also plans for a new Holiday Inn Express to begin construction in 2008.

Dinosaur World is a great addition to “The Dinosaur Capital of Texas.” The new park is adjacent to Dinosaur Valley State Park, already a popular destination for visitors. Other attractions in Glen Rose include Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, the Creation Evidence Museum and the historic downtown square. Glen Rose also offers a number of lodging opportunities from quaint cabins to luxurious bed and breakfasts. A number of hotels are available and more are being built.

Texas Storytelling Festival is fun for the whole family In a world and era of e-mail, text messaging, and chat rooms, live storytelling is a unique experience. Come to Denton April 10-13, 2008 for the 23rd annual Texas Storytelling Festival. Tellers will weave their tales on new ground this year as the event moves to Hubbard Hall at the heart of Texas Woman's University campus.

The storytelling festival is a one-of-a-kind event, featuring great family entertainment, including stories and music from the greatest storytellers of the world in a variety of telling traditions. You'll hear spine-tingling ghost tales, Texas legends, Spanish cuentos, Irish yarns, war stories, toe-taping music and much more. The festival will host over a dozen workshops and master classes.
