Word from the CVBs 150 Years of Fort Worth History Exhibit Fort Worth is filled with many large visitor attractions, but it also has several special treasures that are sometimes overlooked. One of these special treasures is the “150 Years of Fort Worth History Exhibit” located in Fire Station No. 1 at Second and Commerce streets in downtown Fort Worth. The 150 Year Exhibit is one of the best ways to gain an understanding of the full scope of Fort Worth’s interesting history. The Exhibit is located in one of the most historic buildings in downtown. Used as a fire station from 1907 until 1980, the building was active over much of Fort Worth's full history. Fortunately, community leaders realized that the fire house needed to be preserved even thought the immediate area was being redeveloped with large high-rise office buildings and parking garages. The fire house was saved and converted by the Fort Worth Science and History Museum into an excellent historical overview of Fort Worth’s history from when the Comanche Nation ruled the plains to the present era. Be sure to stop by the 150 Exhibit. It is conveniently located in Sundance Square and is open everyday of the week from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. FUN CENTRAL Arlington, TX FUN CENTRAL Arlington, Texas welcomes families and friends for good times and great memories! The Trail is the nation’s first interstate tourism project devoted to alternative energy and historic vintage windmill collections. The trail runs from Lawton, Oklahoma to San Angelo, Texas and includes thirteen communities along the way. Visitors will be able to visit some of the largest wind turbines in America as well as the nation's foremost collections of vintage windmills. Windmills were responsible for the widespread settlement of the High Plains, and giant wind farms now promise to play an equally important role as a source of renewable energy. The historic, cultural, and scientific tale of wind will be wrapped up in an interpretive driving route, made accessible to car and RV travelers in the form of a map, an audio CD, and web site. The Windmill Farm and Bed & Breakfast in Tolar will be Granbury’s link to the trail. This unique farm boasts 35 windmills on 26 acres in a quiet county setting with two more windmills coming in the spring. These windmills are representative of the actual mills used in this part of Texas. You can even view one of the rare Axtell windmills made in Fort Worth. Each windmill has been restored to original condition and each function as designed. This route covers more than 700 miles, and in many ways Granbury is the pivotal location. It's the stop closest to a major metropolitan area. For Trail information, view www.windpowertrail.com. Granbury information is available by calling 817-950-2212 or www.granburytx.com.
