2003 World Championship Paint Horse Show Approximately 2,000 horses will compete for some of the highest honors awarded by the American Paint Horse Association at the World Championship Paint Horse Show, June 22 to July 5, at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth. This year, the show includes 168 classes, five challenge series classes, three sweepstakes events, three select sales, a trade show and many other special activities. Youth, amateur and professional horsemen and horsewomen will exhibit their horses during the two-week show, demonstrating their skills in halter, Western, English, cattle, driving and speed classes. APHA, along with a select group of companies, makes available to winners a cash and product package worth more than $400,000. In addition to competition for World Championship titles, other highlights include the American Junior Paint Horse Judging Contest scheduled June 27, in the Will Rogers Arena, with an awards breakfast at the Roundup Inn June 28 at 7 a.m. Horse and rider seminars, led by Chris Cox and presented by APHA and Horse & Rider magazine, will be held in the Will Rogers Memorial Center’s W.R. Watt Arena June 28 from 9 a.m. to noon. June 29, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Tim McQuay will present "Troubleshooting Your Reining Pattern." And from 10:30 a.m. until noon, Cleve Wells offers "Finesse Your Cues," teaching reining cues and leg aids to enhance a horse's Western pleasure performance. The Bank One Challenge Series competition includes 3-year-old Western Pleasure Challenge, Hunter Under Saddle Challenge, Reining Challenge and Cutting Challenge and 4-year-old Cutting Challenge. The Sweepstakes Competition includes Team Penning, Freestyle Reining Sweepstakes, and Bridleless WesternPleasure. Sales begin June 28 with Performance and Pleasure geldings in the West Sale Arena. The mare and stallion sessions begin at 1 p.m., June 29. Activities will be held in the three major arenas and in other facilities throughout the sprawling 85-acre Will Rogers Memorial Center, which is located in the heart of Fort Worth's cultural district. Colors of the West Trade Show, will be open daily from 9:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. in the Amon Carter Exhibit Hall. To close the 2003 World Championship Paint Horse Show on July 5, freestyle reiners take center stage in the John Justin arena. In this event, both riders and horses are in costume and perform reining patterns set to music. Riders are in control of both the pattern and the theme.
