National Cutting Horse Association's Summer Cutting Spectacular
Sessions during the 20-day event include the Youth Scholarship
cuttings, the East/West Work-offs, the NCHA Sponsors Cutting, and
the Sooner Trailer/NCHA Day Work-off. Cutting horses are a working ranch necessity. From this
work related activity came the cutting competitions that now number
more than 1,400 NCHA-approved shows and limited-age events that are
held annually. On a ranch, no rules are needed, and the rider and
horse do their work without being judged on points. But in the arena,
separating a particular cow from the herd, is watched carefully by
the judges with a point system that gives credits or invokes penalties.
In this year’s event, around 9,000 head of cattle
will be used in the competitions. Thanks to the support of the Emison Insurance Agency
underwritten by Insurance Corporation of Hannover, added prize money
for this year's show will reach $221,000. And shopping opportunities
will abound at the Coors Light Trade Show. Awards for class finalists and champions will be presented
by NCHA sponsors including Cowboy Tack, Gist Silversmiths, M.L. Leddy's,
Cinch Jeans, Sean Ryon Western Store & Saddle Shop, Walls, Stetson,
Sooner Trailers, and KO Trading. For more information and how to get tickets for the finals, call 817-244-6188 or go to www.nchacutting.com. The Spectacular begins at 8 a.m. July 9. 3401 W. Lancaster. Current
