GUEST SERVICES Hospitality – A View From The Top Ronny Region will be the first to tell you he is not a top dog in the hospitality services arena. Yet as Executive Director for the Hotel Association of Tarrant County, he is responsible for helping members toward success. “But it's not a one man show,” Ronny reported. “It's a combined effort. The association has a board of directors representing different areas of the county. It's the board that does the front line work, identifying trends, setting up programs, providing speakers, and helping to disseminate information. I'm just the behind the scenes guy.” Ronny is no stranger to the hospitality industry. His father built area motels in the 1950s and eventually built one for himself, allowing Ronny to work in the hospitality trade. This background led him to help establish the hotel association during the 1980s. His vision is clear. “We strive to inform member hotel managers, directors, and sales representatives, keeping them abreast of area trends and developments,” he explained. “We bring key speakers from outside the area to help educate members as to what's going on in our own backyard... We work to improve our industry base. Key Magazine serves as one of the tools for improvement by making visitors aware of what area hotels have to offer.” Ronny Region offers advice on how association members can be successful. “You have to be aware of what's going on around you, and be able to think outside the box. If you don't, you're wearing blinders and will develop tunnel vision that can be adverse to any industry.” Ronny attributes association success, not to himself, but to the team of experts that make up his staff and board of directors. “They have earned all the congratulations and applause,” Ronny said.
