Cowboy Gathering in Cowtown
By Douglas Harman, President and CEO, Fort Worth Convention & Visitors Bureau

"The Red Steagall Cowboy Gathering" is one of the most colorful and authentic annual western events in "Cowtown." October 27-29, 2006 are the dates for this year's Gathering in the Historic Stockyards.

Over the years, Red Steagall has personally led all of the planning for this autumn event, and he insists that everything is true to our State's cowboy heritage. I've had the opportunity to be involved with the Gathering since its first year in 1991 when it went on despite heavy rain storms. I've seen the great care that Red and the others involved take to insure the best possible heritage event each year.

Red Steagall is one of the best known cowboy singers and poets in the country. His "Gathering" attracts a broad range of people interested in true western traditions in music, poetry, rodeo and chuck wagon cooking. Last year, I had the opportunity to guide German visitors from our Sister City Trier th rough the Red Steagall Gathering, and they all loved what they saw, heard and smelled. The comment that "everything looked so authentic" was heard a number of times. Many international visitors have a deep affection for the American West, and the Red Steagall event is always popular with these visitors, as well as local people.

It's difficult to say what I like best about the Gathering. The chuck wagons along with their crews and their cooking always creates an impressive atmosphere. In addition to Red, many other talented western musicians also perform throughout the event. Don Edwards, Dan Roberts and Leon Rausch are just a few of the well-known performers who will be here this year. The ranch rodeo gives a great example of traditional horseback events practiced on the range, and cowboy poetry puts into words the feelings many have about the Old West.

The youth fiddle contest and the youth chuck wagon cooking contest spotlights young cowboys and lets them display their skills in those areas. So much western heritage in one place! Don't miss the Red Steagall Cowboy Gathering this October in Fort Worth's Historic Stockyards.

Get Away to Granbury for Fun Fall Family Festivities
By Carolyn Kagy, Marketing Manager, Granbury Convention & Visitors Bureau

Fall is in the air: leaves are beginning to turn, the nights are cooler and the night sky seems small in comparison to that old harvest moon shining bright while the smell of warm spices and the sound of children playing in the raked piles of leaves fill the evening air.

What a perfect time to enjoy fun family festivities in Granbury at the annual "Harvest Moon Festival and Paint Out."

Arts and crafts vendors, pumpkin carving, scarecrow contests and children's games are just a small part of this two day celebration of fall. Get away and join the fun in Granbury, Saturday, October 21 and Sunday, October 22.

Adding to the fall flavor this year, the American Impressionist Society will "paint the town" in support of the fine arts. Artists from Texas and across the U.S. will have the opportunity, at various locations, to capture the ambiance of historic sites or architecture, fall foliage or scenery, and local festival activities such as pumpkin carving or scarecrow contests and the colorful wares of the festival itself. Festival goers will have the opportunity to observe artists at work and even purchase their favorite pieces.

Want more -- we got it. Featured Texas authors will be on hand from Noah's Ride, Saturday, October 21 from 3-5 p.m. at the Granbury City hall complex to speak with fans in a relaxed and intimate setting. Free and open to the public, visitors are encouraged to stop by, listen to authors talk about their work on this unique collaborative novel and even get an autograph or two!

No weekend would be complete without a show at one of the lively entertainment venues such as Granbury Live, Granbury Opera House, Granbury Riverboat or Warm Country Heart Theatre. A stay in one of our hotels or charming bed and breakfast inns will warm the heart and renew the spirit.

"Harvest Moon Festival and Paint Out" festivities are free to the public and begin Saturday, October 21 at 9 a.m. and last until 5 p.m., Sunday, October 22.

For more information, please contact the Granbury Convention & Visitors Bureau at 1-800-950-2212 or go to www.granburytx.com.
