Glen Rose offers Outdoor Adventure
By Billy Huckaby, Director, Glen Rose Convention & Visitors Bureau

Glen Rose has always been a great getaway as a family destination as the "Dinosaur Capital of Texas." But, now Glen Rose is also becoming known for its many outdoor recreational opportunities.

Recently, Solovaca Ranch opened with its miles of mountain biking trails over beautiful limestone hills and a variety of riding opportunities from ranch roads to serious single-track for more serious riders. A main loop stretches 7.5 miles.

In addition to the mountain biking, Solovaca also offers primitive camping opportunities to riders and a chance to enjoy the fresh air and scenery of the beautiful hills outside of Glen Rose.

For the mountain biking enthusiast Dinosaur Valley State Park also has great trails to ride. Long known for some of the best preserved dinosaur tracks in the United States, Dinosaur Valley State Park offers a variety of hills and challenges for the beginning or seasoned rider.

Tent and RVcamping are both available at the state park. Fossil Rim Wildlife Center's Bike the Rim is available on a monthly basis. With guided mountain bike tours through their Intensive Management Area, riders have the opportunity to bike within five feet of a 2,000 lb. black rhino, see wolves hiding in the bushes or be stalked by cheetahs, safely of course. There are tour options for all skill levels and more information can be found at www.fossilrim.org. Other outdoor adventures in Glen Rose include canoes and tubes on the Brazos River and hiking trails throughout Dinosaur Valley State Park. There are several companies in the area that rent canoes and tubes or you can bring your own.

For more information on Glen Rose and the surrounding area, contact the Glen Rose Convention and Visitors Bureau at 1-888-346-6282 or check out their website at www.glenrosetexas.net. Event information is also available on the website. Come see why Glen Rose was named America's Dream Town in 2004.

Denton Lights Up the Season
By Kim Phillips, Vice President, Denton Convention & Visitors Bureau

Capture the true spirit of a Texas holiday celebration at the 20th annual Holiday Lighting Festival on Thursday, December 4, on Denton's Historic Courthouse Square, 110 W. Hickory, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Kick off the Christmas with a sing-along and the traditional lighting of the community Christmas tree on the Courthouse-on-the-Square lawn.

Choirs, bell-ringers, dancers, and performances on outdoor stages, in the Campus Theatre and at local Historic Landmarks will transport the child in you to memories of Christmas past. Enjoy a spin in a horse-drawn carriage, take a photo with Santa or participate in interactive crafts and art booths. You can also vote for your favorite Wassail drink as downtown businesses compete for first place in the Wassail Fest.

Once again the festival hosts Santa's Helpers Toy Drive. Pete Delkus, WFAA/Channel 8 meteorologist and Santa's Helpers spokesperson, will be on hand to gather toys for families needing assistance during the Christmas season. A drive-through toy drop-off will be at the corner of Hickory and Locust streets. To cap off the evening, Denton's own Grammy Award Winners, Brave Combo, will add their "nuclear polka" to the season. It isn't Christmas in Denton without a Chicken Dance on the lawn.

Holiday cheer will be the main attraction on the square in Denton throughout the holiday season. Unique gifts, hard-to-find treasures and antiques, books, and specialty wines, are just a sampling of what awaits you in Denton. Merry atmosphere amidst beautiful seasonal decor make shopping Denton fun! Come share in the happy holiday spirit in Denton! Visit the Denton Convention & Visitor Bureau website at www.discoverdenton.com for year-round festivals and fun family activities.

In case of inclement weather the day of the event, some venues may change. Please call 940-349-8529 or 940-349-8385 for details.
