The Polar Express
Take the Journey in IMAX

Catch the Magic of The Polar Express: The IMAX Experience will delight kids and adults this holiday season at the Omni Theater, an IMAX dome at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. The film opened last season to critical acclaim and grossed more than $45 million in IMAX box office, cementing its place as the highest-grossing IMAX DMR® (digitally re-mastered) film to date. The Omni Theater welcomes The Polar Express for an exclusive IMAX-only engagement.

In this inspiring giant-screen film, a young boy awakens one night to a sound he never thought he’d hear: the thunderous roar of a steam engine train, screeching to a halt right in his front yard. The doubting boy steps outside and is greeted by a conductor who somehow seems to know him. He reluctantly boards the train and embarks on a journey to the North Pole along with other pajama-clad children. There, he discovers a truth that only children who believe in Santa Claus can appreciate.

Through January 26, 2006, you, your friends and family can feel the magic of The Polar Express in the Omni’s IMAX dome theater, a setting that puts you in the center of the action. You will feel the howl of the steam whistle via 18,600 watts of digital surround sound, and you will sense snow falling softly overhead. Directed by Oscar® winner Robert Zemeckis and starring two-time Academy Award® winner Tom Hanks, the film uses state-of-the-art technology to create a unique blend of realism and fantasy.

If you see the film on Starbucks Saturdays you can savor a little complimentary hot chocolate, courtesy of Starbucks Coffee Company every Saturday through Dec. 17 from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Also, enjoy other wintry science activities planned for the holidays from demonstrations with liquid nitrogen - think frost and vapor! – to “How do we find the North Pole?” mapping activities, and fun with jingle bells and snow globes. These free activities take place every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in December. A special guest from the North Pole visits the Museum Saturday, Dec. 10 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Guests are invited to bring their cameras for pictures of the kids with Santa Claus.

About the Omni Theater and the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History’s core purpose is education offering extraordinary learning experiences in science and history to the diverse population of North Texas, particularly children, their families, and educators. The Museum features four core exhibit galleries, including Lone Star Dinosaurs, DinoDig® and KIDSPACE®; the Noble Planetarium, Museum School®; and the Omni Theater. Since the mid 1980s, the Museum annually welcomes more than 800,000 visitors, making it one of the most popular cultural attractions in North Texas.

With a seven-story domed screen and 30-degree stadium seating, the Omni Theater is the largest IMAX dome in the United States west of the Mississippi River. The Omni’s 120-foot-wide screen places the audience in the center of the action, producing a sensation much closer to real-life than a conventional movie theater.

Thanks to a recent technology upgrade, the Omni is now able to to show feature-length films, the first being The Polar Express: The IMAX Experience. Previously, the Omni could only show films of up to one hour in length. The upgrade enables the Museum’s theater to take advantage of new IMAX® technology, DMR, which allows IMAX theaters to show films up to 2 hours long. The Omni Theater chose The Polar Express as its first DMR film due to its strong connection to the Museum’s mission as a place for extraordinary learning, as well as the film’s tremendous appeal to families and children.
