Word from the CVBs Fort Worth Heritage Trails
Fort Worth is a community with close ties to its heritage. This feature of the community is important to the City’s popularity as a visitor destination. The Tarrant County Courthouse, the historic Stockyards, the daily cattle drive, the 150 Year Exhibit and the Will Rogers Memorial Center are all features that connects the City to its history. The relatively new Heritage Trails Program is one more way for visitors and residents alike to gain a deeper understanding of how Fort Worth is connected to many important areas of state, regional and national historical developments and trends. Several years ago, a group of community leaders initiated discussions on how the historical interpretation of downtown might be strengthened. The 150-Year Exhibit at the Firehouse on Commerce Street provides an excellent overview of the City. However, nearly all of the existing markers focus on specific events, people or buildings. The planning group decided that there should be historic markers in downtown designed to address important aspects or themes of the City. After many months of work, the new Heritage Trails sidewalk markers have been unveiled. The first marker has been placed in front of the Wells Fargo Tower headquarters on Main Street in Sundance Square. Its title is “The Stage Leaves from Here.” The marker tells the story of stagecoach and mail service to the City which began in 1856 from this approximate location. Stagecoach service was critical to the development of the West, and even after rail service reached Fort Worth, stagecoaches continued to be important as a connection to smaller communities surrounding Fort Worth. A special experience awaits visitors to the Wells Fargo Tower. The Wells Fargo lobby area has a beautifully restored original stagecoach, for visitors to see while in downtown. In the months ahead, there will be 19 Heritage Trails markers installed throughout downtown, covering a wide range of topics, including cattle drives, grand hotels, architecture, the JFK visit to Fort Worth and many other exciting themes. The Heritage Trails Program will make visiting downtown Fort Worth even more exciting than before. Celebrate the Holidays In Style with FUN CENTRAL

The Horse Country Tour of North Texas is a self-guided driving tour that invites you to meander your way through beautiful Denton County. Located just northeast of Fort Worth, the horse country region extends through Denton County to the Red River at the Oklahoma State line. Known as "Horse Country USA", the area is populated with more than 300 farms and ranches, many of which are breeding and training facilities. The horse population exceeds 25,000 and includes many different breeds from Quarter Horses to Thoroughbreds and from Paints to Andalusians. The horse industry represents the number one economic impact in agriculture for Denton County and has promoted this region to become a national equine trading center. The tour takes visitors among farms specializing in a variety of disciplines including halter horses, pleasure horses, cutting horses, reining, hunter-jumpers, and more. Lovely country roads wind along miles of pipe and rail fencing, beautiful pastures, impressive barns and, of course, lots and lots of horses. The farms on this tour are all working farms. We suggest you exercise the courtesy commonly practiced here in horse country. We call it "Heads Up". Horse farms ask that visitors call first to give the "Heads Up" that they plan to visit. In fact, a "Heads Up" is appreciated even if you only plan to drive through a farm on its private roads. Unless gate signage specifically invites drop-in visitors, please refrain from entering private driveways and stick to the main roads. This ensures safety for our visitors, our horses, and a positive visitor experience for everyone. For a Horse Country brochure and driving map, please call the Denton Convention & Visitor Bureau toll free at 888-381-1818 or visit online at www.horsecountrytours.com. Current
